"Northern Gannett" is an original ink-on-paper inspired by the remains of the bird washed along the shoreline in Maryland. It was the second piece of art I created as a primary tool for mindfulness and somatic art therapy during a cancer recurrence. The stippling and hatching helped me practice being present with a mind temporarily cleared of fear. The hand can only be present; also true of the breath. Focusing on each mark while anchoring on my breathing remains a daily practice learned and developed through this piece.
